I just picked up 2 boxes of 180 grn TXRGs in 30-06, I have a range trip planned for next weekend to see how they shoot in my Ruger #1. Does anyone know how the TXRG preforms on game? I assume they a very similar to Barnes TSX but its never safe to assume.
Having used both the 35 Whelen and the 300 WM on safari I can honestly say I prefer the 35 Whelen. I've used the 250 grn NP and the 225 grn TSX and I my opinion the 225 TSX is the bullet to use. On our first safari our PH's challenged my brother and I to a shooting compitition we used our 35...
Gear choices are always a personal decision and many of the responders to this thread prefer high end glass with or without a built-in range finder. The truth is you don’t need a pair of binos that cost more than your plane ticket or your rifle to hunt Africa. A $200-$500 is all you need to hunt...
Because you are hunting the Eastern Cape I recommend the 300 WM with a 200 grain bullet. My 13 year old son used that combination to great effect last year in the Eastern Cape, now I struggle to get him to shoot anything else.

I have meet and spoken with Sean Scott several times at our Kansas City SCI Chapter meetings and banquets. I have bid on several of the hunts he donates yearly to our chapter but I always get outbid.
On my one and only Buffalo hunt I used my No.1 in 416 Rigby, as you can see from my posted pictures eariler and my avatar the hunt turned out well, but it was more exciting than I wanted. My PH and I where charged at 7 yards by my buff and chased off by a bull elephant in the span of 20 minutes...
The sun was in my eyes, so I may be squinting. I'm right handed but left eye dominate, so I've been hunting with a #1 for the last 35 years. I love how short and handy the #1s are, they are easy to carry in the field and work well in tree stands. The No. 1 I used on my buffalo weighs a trim...
My 13 year old son used 200 TA in his 300WM to great effect in the Easter Cape last July. His shots ranged from 90 yards on the warthog to 351 yards for the Kudu. As for accuracy the attached target was a cold bore shot and two additional shots at 100 yards. My may never use another rifle or...
