Yes the wood is fairly plain on this gun, but honestly it isn't bad. I do have rifles with nicer wood and while I really appreciate nice walnut they really do not shoot any better than the ones I own with plain stocks. I hear you though, for this to be one of Rugers higher end models it would...

    .270 vs .280

I can not personally attest to the performance of the .280 Remington as I have never owned one however I have had a Remington 710 in .270 Winchester for 20 years now and it is a tack driver out to 250 yards. My Dad has a Sako AV also in .270 Winchester and has used it since the mid 1970s and it...

Love that bird, my Uncle was career Coast Guard and was both a rescue diver and a flight engineer. I spent a lot of time with him on base around C130s and H3F Pelicans.

Howdy neighbor, welcome aboard!!! I'm a newbie here as well and am also fond of long distance shooting. Just picked up a Sako L461 Vixen in .223 Remington and looking forward to trying it out at 600+ yards. And as others have mentioned thank you for your service Sir!

Ironically "the big bore bug" is exactly how I found this wonderful site in the first place. I was (and currently still am) looking for a 1903 Springfield action to use as a base for a .35 Whelen build. I have been drooling over the great custom rifles of the early 20th century like Griffin...

    For Sale Remington Model 798 (Mauser 98) In 375 H&H NIB $1,400

Dang it!!! Just spent my mad money stash on a Sako L461 Vixen in .223 Remington. That's a sweet rifle for a very fair price, I paid within $100.00 for the Sako and it had no sights or optics. Good luck, this should honestly already be gone.

Hello everybody, I found this place while doing a Google search for a 1903 Springfield action. I had never heard of this site before and was amazed when I started reading at the knowledge base here. I have never been to Africa (been fishing in Alaska several times) but a Safari is definitely...
