One for Franz! The 470 Capstick!

This was a decent option for irons and could be removed for scope, or, scope the gun, carry the irons as a backup...... Not perfect, but decent option..... I always look for sight options...... today that has become very difficult since I have lost a portion of my vision in the right eye and...

One for Franz! The 470 Capstick!

Yes, correct....... No, I don't think so, PacNor provided the barrel I had on my 475 B&M that was oversized. I don't know where Winchester Custom shop bought those barrels for the Big 5 Series. And the Custom shop was long closed by the time i learned this. No, that is for sure, I sold...

One for Franz! The 470 Capstick!

Early days I knew Leslie Dengler at the Winchester Custom Shop pretty well. I had several Custom Shop rifles, and got in on the Big 5 Series a tad late, but near perfect timing for me.... I missed the 375 which is just as well, since I would have had no use for such....... I got in late on...

One for Franz! The 470 Capstick!

HEH HEH......... well well @CZDiesel , seems we have something in common...... Besides our differences in Sectional Density.............LOL........... I had two of these rifles, #50 and #97 of the Series. I doubt you want to hear the rest of the story since you have not fired yours...........

    45-70 dangerous game?

On Page 3, in that same post, I listed Factor #8 addressing Sectional Density concerned with Solids, as the last Factor in Terminal Penetration, perhaps you missed that. I have, we have, tested literally 1000s of different solids here over the years. We have tested many times the same or...

    45-70 dangerous game?

There are 8 Absolute Known Factors for Solid Penetration and are as follows in Order of Importance..... #1 Meplat Percentage of Caliber Meplats that attain 65% Meplat of Caliber are terminally stable.... Above 70% Meplat bullets remain stable, however depth of penetration begins to decrease...

    45-70 dangerous game?

The World has changed dramatically over the last 20 years........... in fact, it can really be dropped to around 15 years in all reality......... The days of Sectional Density being a major factor in depth of penetration are long gone. The only time that Sectional Density can be considered a...

    Scope Reliability

It is a 6.8 SPC (I think called SPC) necked up to .358 caliber........ 16 inch AR. Nice little cartridge for a AR type gun. Favorite load is 180 Speer at 2358 fps, and 160 CEB Maximus at 2482 fps.

    Colt 1911, market scouting

We have seen a lot of really nice guns so far, lots of super nice BBQ Guns. I have my share of other 1911s, that are not BBQ guns in my opinion anyway, some others might consider them BBQ guns, everyone has a different idea about that, and that is a good thing as well.......... I have this...

    45-70 dangerous game?

Brian..... I had not seen nor heard of the article you posted, but like you, I concur 100%. With Expanding bullets, and or Trauma Inflicting bullets such as the Modern CNC Generation I and Generation II bullets like the Hammer and CEB Raptors, the only number that counts is "Terminal Sectional...

    45-70 dangerous game?

Much of the appeal of 45/70 for many, is not so much the cartridge, but the rifles which come chambered in the 45/70.........I am talking the Lever Guns. Many Americans grew up watching Cowboy and Western Movies, lever guns were the rifles of choice in those days. Many Americans grew up with...

    45-70 dangerous game?

Brian........ North Fork has been my favorite Premium Expanding for some time now, they are superb in all ways, for premium expanding. Some years ago I did a few tests with the 350 North Forks, designed primarily for 45/70........at different velocities. And the 400 North Forks at a...

    Colt 1911, market scouting

@Shootist43 I now understand exactly where you are coming from with the grips! And, I concur with you on this as well. I know "Bullseye" shooters very well, and for the rest of the gentlemen here that do not, know this, Bullseye Shooters are the best there is! A Bullseye Shooter can branch...

    Colt 1911, market scouting

I love Ivory, and very partial to Mammoth Ivory because of the various colors, age, cracks and other very unique character. Someone here said that from a functional standpoint ivory was useless? I don't understand that at all, makes no sense to me, my guns feed, function, shoot just as well...

    45-70 dangerous game?

I hope that you will rethink this before ever going to the field to put it to practice. Reason being, honestly it is a poor choice. I know, because I did it and it was a poor choice 23 years ago, and its still a poor choice, especially in light that we now have real Super Bullets for 45/70...
