    dealing with a cracked stock

I was gonna say stock needs to be tight. Stock should also contact the receiver 100% at all points where wood meets metal to spread the recoil through the entire stock and not just one point where the stock is meeting the receiver. If the stock does not make consistent contact around the...

    dealing with a cracked stock

Not sure where you are located but I know of a couple gunsmiths that can repair or make a whole new stock. I know a new stock will be pretty costly. One of the guys trained at H&H after college and the other is a very good stock maker.

    375 H&H and 300 H&H

Little update on the 300 H&H. I got it cycling 100% today. All that is left to do on it is straighten the bolt knob to shape it and then bend it back to what I want, have a little sanding to do on inside the action to get the machine marks out and cut barrel to length and crown it.

Minor issue or life Threatening Problem???

The rails not contacting enough of the round could also be the cause. Of course Do the magbox/ follower spring first. Apples to oranges kinda but I know when opening up a mauser actions feed lips to far the round can slip up and out like you are saying. Winchester design is based on mauser so...

    375 H&H and 300 H&H

Been out of town this weekend and got a nice laugh out of these posts. I will of course try to rust blue both mausers. not sure how long they will take to do properly but I will ask and find out. Tomorrow is back to work on the second mauser and getting it to cock smoothly. it was hard to open...

    375 H&H and 300 H&H

The action I got today needs a little work before I can get started on opening it up to fit the 300 H&H. It is hard to open the bolt on and close when first cocking. It has eased up from polishing the bolt camming surface but still has a little ways to go. I hopefully will get it done on monday.

    375 H&H and 300 H&H

We do a rust blue on a gun. I am sure I can do more than one gun if I choose to do so. I will check out some more of the matte bluing from other guys that are doing it right now. I looked it up on google images and it had a slightly different color than I saw at school. I like the name and the...

    375 H&H and 300 H&H

Yes we rust blue one gun I believe VD. Haven't seen anyone in the second year do it yet though so I may be wrong. I will ask about it in class today. Got an email confirming my gun did get delivered today so I will have it in a couple hours. With a name like STVD I am afraid of what kind of...

    375 H&H and 300 H&H

VD we have to blue seven guns and they require one high polish just so that we do know how to do it incase a customer ever requests it. It also takes much more work to do than matte as we have to sand out all the pits and not just put the gun in a blasting cabinet and drop it in the tank. Are...

Well in class as part of the grade we have to do one high polish blue. Which most people do on a SxS shotgun and color case harden the receiver. We hot tank all of our guns we blue. I guess I may go mate if I see more of them and come around to liking it. the one I saw today was just very dull...

    375 H&H and 300 H&H

gun won't be 100% finished until this time next year. Next semester in class I will make a stock for it and then next summer I will blue the gun. Question for everyone. Do you all feel a matte finish on the stock and a matte blue is the way to go on this gun since it will be on in the sun and...
