    Straight wall whitetail options

I like the 360 Buckhammer. Rimmed cartridge with a bit more power than the 35 Remington and it seems to meet all the different states straight wall and length requirements. I have an 18” TC Encore barrel that shoots the Rem 200gr CL and the Fed 220 Hammer ammo MOA. So far I have killed one pig...

    Update from DSC annual meeting

A big thank you to @Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy for the update. I am an optimist in general. I think most DSC members would agree with me when I say I could care less about "who said this" and mistakes made in the past. Unless you are going to let this define who you are past, present and...

    Dallas Safari Club Convention Summary

We did not attend the show in Atlanta because we didn't feel it would be worth it based on all the negative feelings from outfitters and members. The lack of information from the DSC Board solidified our decision. I could see a $hit show in the making. Not a fan of Atlanta but I spent a lot...

    Sellier & Bellot bullets

What is going on with tipping culture in the hunting industry?

This is where I lose my $hit. In Argentina, average salary is just over $400 USD a month and minimum wage is under $300 USD per month. (I did a search and called my old office in BA) I have never heard of even minimum wage being paid in rural areas in South America. Most use day labor and...

If you smoke - just stop it

When I was a barrel chested freedom fighter, I smoked like a dragon. Camels; camels without the filter in the field. Standard ration of 3 packs a day. I also smoked cigars and a pipe. And I chewed. Mostly Cannon ball plug tobacco. I was a smoking, spitting, air cooled machine. :ROFLMAO...

    DSC Board Elections

I got my election email/link today. The options were much like US politics. We have to cast our votes against someone (that we dislike the most) rather than for someone (that we support). As DSC grew, their disorganization and disconnection from the sponsors and members grew as well. Why do...

How long do you age meat?

The deer we drop off at the processor gets aged 3-7 days in the walk in cooler. If we processes it ourselves, it normally does not get aged. Mama can take a meat hammer and a pressure cooker and make a leather boot like wagyu beef. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Safe hunting

Jaguar vs leopard: similarities and differences in hunting behavior

I have never heard or seen them stashing a kill in a tree. All the kills I have seen were above ground. If you go by what the locals say, they have the power of King Kong and a T-Rex along with a Romulan cloaking device. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Have you had to deal with any? The National Parque...

Jaguar vs leopard: similarities and differences in hunting behavior

Killing a jaguar is really frowned upon and any number of NGO's, Greenies and other unwashed liberals love nothing better than to make someone's life miserable if they dare kill one of the "few remaining" jaguars on the planet. No pictures: you can lie, deny and make counter accusations. When...

Jaguar vs leopard: similarities and differences in hunting behavior

The "woke military" is an interesting topic. All militaries, (in my experience) are a snap shot of the society and country they are serving. Unfortunately there are not warehouses in some secret bunker with an endless supply of super soldiers/marines/airmen/seamen/Naval Aviators, SeALs, etc...

    Thoughts on a 7X57 Rimmed

Yes, Sir. That is what I was talking about. With the 175gr bullets I can get just under 2400fps and I am happy with that. I shoot for 2500-2600fps with 150-160gr bullets. The only premium bullet I use is the Nosler Partition. None of the animals hit have disagreed with my loads. :D If you...

    Thoughts on a 7X57 Rimmed

In my case, the Merkel K1/K3 series was made for high pressure cartridges such as 300 win mag, 257 Weatherby, 7 mag and others. So I have no concerns with safety issues using 7x57 Mauser data. However, I don't hotrod any cartridge at the loading bench. Safe shooting

    Thoughts on a 7X57 Rimmed

I believe manuals are cautious with loads for the 7x57R because of older platforms. In my case, the Merkel K1/K3 platforms come in very high pressure cartridges so I feel safe using modern 7x57 Mauser loading data. Safe shooting.

    GAITERS!

I prefer canvas gaiters. I use them even when wearing long pants as they keep my boot laces tied and prevent debris from coming in the tops of my boots. I treat mine with bug dope and that helps keep the critters out. With the leather ones, I sweat too much and I feel like I have Paso Fino...

When I was with TKE one of our factories was less than an hour from (former) Merkel USA. I went there often and bought several firearms. I love the 7x57R cartridge and would like to find a Merkel or Chapuis SxS in that cartridge someday.
