I feel it is the taxidermist's job to make sure the hides are dried properly as I paid him for more than inspecting and crating them. At this time I will not disclose who I used as I want to give him a chance to respond.
My crate arrived from South Africa so I went to my taxidermist to have him open and go over it with me. I have 7 animals dipped and packed with 5 hides. My kudu arrived with some flesh still attached to the hide and mold on it. Both of my impala skulls still had some flesh and dead bugs all over...
My PH and his family are extremely concerned with the current actions of the government. They are 5 generations on their land so I would think they would know when to be concerned or not. I hope it doesn't happen!!
Just a little fyi. Many years ago while stationed in Alaska I developed numbness on the left side of my face below my eye through my jaw hence the what you guys call lack of a smile. I hear it a lot but I just ignore it 99.9% 0f the time. Trust me I was excited and definitely smiling on the...
This trip with Iliwa Safaris was top notch from start to finish!! This family is honest and makes the whole day very enjoyable from start to finish. I highly recommend them if you are looking for plains game and like to laugh. I will be talking about this trip for quite some time.
Day 8 we were back after the warthog and this time we were successful on them as well as taking another impala on our last day of hunting before heading to Capetown for a few days before flying home.
Day 6 we took the day off from hunting and headed to Addo and cheetah breeding sanctuary. We saw so many warthogs at Addo that I was going crazy as I really wanted one but they had eluded me so far.
Day 4 we woke up to rain so hunting was delayed until the afternoon at which time we tried to find a springbuckk and warthog. After many failed stalks I found and successfully harvested a springbuck right before sunset.
Day 3 we headed off of the 22,000 acre farm to look for gemsbuck. We hiked 5 miles through the mountains with no luck but did see more kudu, impala, blue wildebeest and blonde wildebeest.
The second day started out with me harvesting a nice impala. We spent the rest of the day sightseeing and looking for warthogs. We saw a few warthogs but all were too small or sows. We did see plenty of other animals including giraffe and the black eagle.
Well my wife and I just returned from our first trip to South Africa and it far exceded our expectations.
Our first hunt day included me shooting a nice kudu and a bushpig which I really knew nothing about until it came running down a mountain side and my PH Francois suggested we pursue him...
I am booked on Emirates for next week. The problem is that I do not want to get to the ticket counter and then get nailed with the extra charge. I will try and talk with a real person if I can find a phone number that someone will answer.
I just confirmed with emirates and that is the charge. Don't fly emirates if you want to take firearm. Already learning lessons and I haven't even left. I hope it doesn't continue. The gun stays home!!
My calculations have me paying $250.00 each way on Emirates air from Seattle to Johannesburg to take my rifle as over. That does not include $130 I am paying for help at the airport and fee to get it to Port Elizabeth. Is this right?
