Actually, I believe I'll need two because I'm taking two rifles, right?

But what I'm talking about is that I'll be entering S. Africa twice, so do I need two sets of permits?

I'll be hunting in S. Africa a week, then going to Zambia to hunt for eight days. After that, I'll be entering S. Africa again to fly from J-burg to home.

I had Gracy Travel do my South Africa permit while going to Zimbabwe. I was able to hold on to the permit until my return. My meet and greet met me coming and going for each leg of the trip.

If you're flying from Zambia to Jo'burg and your luggage (including of course the guns) is checked straight through to your final destination (outside of South Africa), then you never see the guns in Jo'burg and you don't need a permit.

At lest that's what happened when I flew Vic Falls - Jo'burg -London and Windhoek-Jo'burg-London, the last as recently as last June.

So far, I've privately received three conflicting opinions on whether I'll need two separate S. African permits to cover the time hunting in S. Africa and Zambia.

a) Just one permit, but check the "multiple import" box on the SAPS 520.

b) Just one permit, but fill out the dates to cover the entire trip, including while in Zambia.

c) Two permits required, one import and one in-transit.

I don't want to name these sources, because at least two of them must be wrong. But what do I do?

Call and talk to Henry at rifle permits. ASAP

Yes, Henry has answered my question. He clearly knows what he's talking about, and I do appreciate his advice.

It seems I'll need two permits, one for import and the other in-transit.

I will et my son in RSA to fone the SAPS division in the Western Cape and get the real info direct from them!

NO

.. the rifles are written onto ONE form, plus the ammo for each calibre.

Yeah, thanks, Bruce. I realize that both rifles should be listed on one form now. Should have examined the SAPS 520 more closely. Also, I'll need two separate 520s for the trips between S. Africa and Zambia.

That is what the local SAPS guy was telling my son, he says you will need 2 x permits to enter BOTH times into RSA... sorry could not be more of a help, but I'm sure that Henry managed to get you properly sorted

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
