Is “30-06OR” on 12/70mm x 12/70mm x 30-06OR Simson Drilling the same as common 30-06 Springfield?

Hopefully, I am asking this in the right forum. If not, advise me as I am new here.

Recently became the next owner of a Drilling with markings on top of barrels: “Simson Suhl made in GDR” “SPECIAL-GEWEHRLAUFSTAHL”.

Markings under barrels:

On shotgun barrels: “18.5” “12/70mm”,

On rifle barrel: “1282” and “30-06OR”

“N” with proof mark? on all three barrels which I assume to be a nitro proof mark.

Here is my question, is “30–06OR” the same as 30-06 Springfield? Am I to use my common 30-06 deer rifle ammunition in this or will I have catastrophic consequences while carrying this nicely engraved firearm?

I purchased this as I can’t imagine a better gun to walk around in the woods with up here in SE Alaska. 30-06 with 180gr Barnes TTSX for blacktail deer, two 12ga 2 3/4” inch Brenneke slugs for those pesky brown bear which come to the deer shot and camp dinner table plus a pocket full of shells for ducks and grouse seems to be what this combination gun was made for.

Any advice resulting in my looking less uneducated about this is firearm is greatly appreciated.

Pictures would be good. Lots of german hunters on the forum here. 30-06 was the same in East Germany, but very uncommon. Sounds like a gun made for export. Look for the Q1 stamp. Some break actions do fine with higher pressure cartridges like 270 or 30.-06.

I am willing to be this is a gun modified to take a 7x65R case sized and trimmed to make a 30-06R, not very uncommon in Europe. if so-it will still fire standard 30-06 safely.

Have a smith check with a set of 30-06 chamber gauges or do a cast.

Does not the R imply a rimmed case, not a rimless case? If so it would headspace on the rim, not the shoulder.

I think it could also mean Without Rim

« Ohne Rand « of my school German is correct

Only named « .30 R « I know of is .30R Blaser

Yes, but no other rimless round is called "OR". .30-06 is simply .30-06. If they were using a European designation, it would be 7.62X63. I've just never seen OR.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
