That is a real nice bit of work! Looks great on a pedestal.

Looks good Erik, and the pedestal is really elegant, the best I have seen :D Cheers:

Very nice work, I love the ‘lightness’ of the pedestal

Awesome work Erik. I can’t wait to see my animals mounted and displayed on this forum. . I’ll start a new post when I start receiving updates from you

Can’t wait to see the text from you with pictures of mine when they’re done. Hope the knee is feeling better

I think I know who the then first timer to Africa is that shot this bull. Nice work Erik!

Looks great. I certainly hope my D&P shipment comes home in great condition. Currently mounting a buddies batch. No hair, holes and I mean 100's, 8 hrs on repairs alone for his impala, eland skin is pure white, only hair is on shoulder. Hair on his male lion and gemsbuck was "burned" singed, they are a mess.

If this lechwe was like that you did miracle's. Another outstanding mount Erik. Pedestal looks good, hiding and mounting the rod looks "not normal" being so short, or did you fabricate a plate for invisible mount?

Love the horns, natural/real and not blackened.

Keep them coming, I really enjoy looking at your work, gain tips and ideas.

Thanks

These capes were caught when Covid first happened. It took 2 years to get them back from Africa whilst they sat dry salted. The capes were horrible. This Lechwe was the best out of the group but I have probably 15 hours in repairs to it. 1 kudu and 1 wildebeest were completed ruined. We can usually fix 99% of problems but they were way far gone and had to be replaced. I’m going to post all the other pictures from this group very soon.
This animal is removable from the base. I built some bracketry to hold the Lechwe but everything is hidden either inside the animal or inside the base. There is also a hidden battery operated light that lights up the masks making for a nice effect. It’s hard to see the light in the pic but in person it makes the masks glow.

Cant wait for the next batch of pics. You and your guys work wonders. Being in Canada and not having any "spare" parts it makes things real difficult. Trying to match hair to single the 6-8" bald hairless spots becomes impossible. There would be no cape if we cut out and sewed bald areas. We did a life size cheetah a few months ago, one whole side gone/destroyed. Patched with another species skin and painted spots, luckily it is wall side, does not look right but customer is understanding and happy.

He always says even with lipstick on a pig, its still a pig. So understands there are limits.

I have seen many African mounts that look completely "painted", now I know why and hate the fact that some of mine will have to look that way. These are the reasons my buddy/shop owner refuses most Africa stuff.

Standing by for more pics.

Did you have to weight the bottom of the base to stabilize it?
Not on this one. It’s very stable but the Lechwe doesn’t weigh much. Now the next one I will post I did end up having to add weight to the bottom.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
