Game Trackers Africa Rockwood Conservation is a private nature reserve in excess of 33000 acres conserving one of the largest privately owned southern white rhino populations on the planet, managed for sustainability and to counter the extinction threat of this species.

GTA Rockwood Conservations thriving population of approximately 400 white rhinos is a testament to our highly successful and progressive conservation approach. However, protecting and managing our rhino is a daring and costly exercise costing in excess of $ 1 mil per annum.
The selection of breeding bulls is scientifically done to ensure and expand the demographic and genetic diversity, and support herd resilience to ensure sustainability. Our conservation and genetic diversity strategies are implemented in conjunction with/ and is supported by various universities through related research.
Without any government subsidy or any other form of support, we rely on trophy hunting as a source of financial income to complement self-funding of the shortfall. This financial injection from hunting (cross subsidized by other species hunted) is essential for rhino security and management.

Game Trackers Africa Rockwood Conservation management strategy is focused on the sustainable hunting of rhino bulls of 15 years and older. This conservative approach targets old rhino bulls, bulls already used in our breeding programs, bulls that are infertile and those that are not genetically compatible with the genetic diversity goals. Hunting of rhino bulls is also critical to address challenges of excess males and high population densities.

Money raised from this safari will be in direct support of cost associated with physical and technological anti-poaching measures, and the general management activities of the population. This includes the salaries and training of rangers, procurement of and maintenance of infrastructure, transport, equipment and surveillance systems as well as veterinary costs.
