25 Creedmoor

Anyone heard much about these? As a .257 cal fanboy, I'm very interested to see if these can take off.
I found a bit on YouTube recently. I think they found a happy medium between velocity and barrel life.
Hope fully it does for the .25 cal projectile line up what the manbun done for the 6.5

My 27-year old son called me about it today.

He's "cutting-edge."
I'm "old-school."

Does this mean I need to throw away all .25/06, .257 Weatherby and .257 Roberts???

It's hard to keep up with all the new cartridges.

(Especially those that may not even be around 10 years from now)

I'm sure it's great, but Hornady is now in era of coming up with solutions to problems that don't exist.

IMHO...

Well, Bob Nelson will probably love it...

No, don’t discard the tried and proven.

I used a .308 on my last hunt and the world is still turning , the deer dropped dead and I’ve been for another haircut.
I’m old school too, not as old as ol’ Bob though.

A .308 Winchester will still kill an animal???

Shocking!

I can only hope that a .30/06 is still viable in today's world...

It can win a couple of World Wars, but I'm sure that a bullet from one would now only bounce off a duiker.

It will push the bullet development in .257 and for that it is worth it.

I don't shoot PRS/NRL or F-Class currently but I will again. I think it would be a great cartridge for all 3 disciplines with the new Hornady bullets.

This and the new 22 Creedmoor really for me spur a lot of interest in light kicking rifles that punch above their weight on smallish to medium game and predators.

I am hunting this year with a 243 for the first time in 20 years. The bullet development pushed by the precision rifle sports has given the smaller calibers bullet development interest that I never thought would be possible.

I am sitting on over 1000 rounds of RWS once fired 8x57 brass. I had planned to build a 6mm-Ackx57 when I get back to America. Because of all the bullet development on these smaller calibers and the new bullets for the 224, I am also going to build a 224-Ackx57. I have a 5,6x57 RWS, but because of its stupid neck thickness it's sucks to work with.

At some point I want to work with a 25-6.5 PRC, or 25-06 Ackley with a 1 in 8 twist.

I appreciate Hornady being the engineering king that it is. No other bullet company compares. RWS, Lapua and Norma may build better brass, but their ballistics engineers aren't producing what Hornady is.

Federal, Barnes, Nosler, Remington, Winchester aren't even showing up to the table.

I also appreciate how much Hornady pushes their marketing and engineering teams for customer engagement. I listen to a lot of podcast on shooting and hunting, and the content driven by Hornady is tops.

@Muskox the 6.5creedmoor hype took the world by storm and may have been Hornady’s biggest success story that funds further development. Purely based on observations and no real insight.
If so they probably hope to have another win marketing the next “game changer”
Good for them for trying and better still if they succeed.
The benefit for us shooters probably comes from the specialist manufacturers developing better cases and projectiles to support these newer cartridges. Or just increasing the range of quality projectiles in that calibre.

Nothing about the 25 Creedmoor is meant to replace older 25 cal rifles, but as with a lot of other rounds it's the packaging of new rifles and ammunition twisted and cut for better bullets.

So the question isn't "is the 25 CM better than my 250AI" it's "how do we make use of these great new bullets"

Whether or not heavy 25 caliber bullets better suit your needs than the older 120 grain or lighter bullets is another question.

I've been messing with fast twist 25 cal for years, like a lot of other wildcatters. The 25-06 is a beast when set up for these 130+ grain bullets. The 25 CM is as identical as it comes to the old 250AI, a sweet spot for 130 grain bullets when taking into account action length, barrel life, and performance. The 250 AI has always been a great round though, so you can't dump on the 25 Creedmoor without dumping equally on the 250AI.

Should you throw out your old 257 Roberts? I haven't, but if I have an interest or a need to use 130+ grain bullets I'll have to spring for a new barrel at least.

I enjoy and shoot them all: 257 Roberts, 250, 250AI, 25 CM, 25-06, 25 Bullberry, 25 TCU. Some of those are 1:7 or 1:7.5 rather than the old 1:10 twist. Some are pistols, like the 250AI, Bullberry, and TCU. They're all great rounds in their given roles and platforms.

This is a good move by Hornady, but I'll keep loading Bergers because I think they're better bullets.

First, realize that I'm a dinosaur...

A .25 Creedmoor pales in comparison with a .257 Weatherby Magnum, except that is is short action, non-belted cartridge.

Neither has much recoil and both can probably be extremely accurate.

The Weatherby could push the same bullet to well over 3,000 ft/s.
The Creedmoor can only muster about 2,850.

Why not just make a .257 Weatherby Magnum Improved with a faster twist and call it done???

(I guess the manufacturers need a new chambering to sell a few new rifles)

The .25-06 is perhaps my favorite cartridge I own, and it, the 308, and 30-06 are far and away my most used rifles.

To your point @Safari Dave , the 25 Creed will not really do anything the 25-06 can't, other than maybe a few more fps and/or use heavier bullets. But I do think that if it catches on as a popular caliber like the 6.5 Creed did, it will help advance the bullet selection available for 25 cal.

Wouldn't hate owning one, but won't necessarily seek one out.

No. It means you need to get the original 250-3000 savage.

From what I am seeing on videos and reading the 25 CM is going to be a great competition round but not so much for hunting anything bigger than a deer. The 6.5 has better numbers on that.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
