Perhaps this kind of thread has been done before, but I could not find it.

I recently visited the Belgian National Museum for Natural Sciences, and while they have an interesting dinosaur skeleton collection, there are also quite a few stuffed animals. Not always of the best quality though.

Curious to see what other awful taxidermy any of you have seen (or own?!?) that only a mother could love ! do share!

From an estate auction that included several taxidermy mounts.

Great thread.

I found this in a hole in the wall book store in downtown Charlotte couldn't pass it up.
It stays on the piano and get a lot of attention and laughs from guests.

I highly recommend it.

I took the largest whitetail buck that I ever killed to an "apprentice" taxidermist a few year's ago. The "mentor" always did a good job, so I wasn't concerned.

When I picked up the shoulder mount, I thought it looked like one of those fakes, where you could clap your hands and it would start singing...

With art being somewhat subjective, I took it to an experienced hunter and asked his opinion.

He said, "I hope you didn't have to pay for that."

I called a "Good" taxidermist and asked his opinion on what to do.

He told me to offer to pay for the "materials" used in the process, but nothing more.

If the taxidermist refused, then get a couple of letters from others taxidermist and take him to "small claims court."

I called him and told him that I would give him $175, but nothing more. He took it, but never understood why I wasn't happy with it. (He is no longer in business)

Luckily, I have now taken a much larger buck, so the "cartoon" mount now resides in my attic.

Cats seem to be very difficult for many taxidermists. Especially, small cats.

If there are commercially available molds, to pull the capes across, they can usually do a decent job.

The taxidermists who are able to create their own body and head molds are few and far between now.

When you look into how Carl Akeley perfected his method, you start to understand why his stuff looked and still looks so good. He was a sculptor primarily and that is how he approached his work. A tremendous talent.

Predators in general are frequently butchered.

Cats seem to be the worst. It always bums me out when someone posts pictures of their once in a lifetime mountain lion hunt taxidermy and it looks like a drowned rat. I don't say anything because it doesn't make me feel any better to make someone feel bad. But it is sad to see.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
