Africa Sayings

When things aren't going well-"I am about to have a sense of humour failure."

Slang for spicy food-"Rajah"

Does anyone know who was the first one to describe kudu as "grey ghost of bush"?

Nowdays this is frequently mentioned, and in vintage literature I never noticed.
So this should be modern term, recently populirised?
Or, I am wrong?

Good question.

Might be Ruark that coined it?

I don't know about kudu but havelina and Coues deer in the southwest have been called the grey ghosts for at least the last 50 years.

Bonefish are also called the grey ghost of the flats fishing world, and they are equally as crafty and fleeting as kudu.

Not sure about this but, I think it was Hemingway in his book "The Green Hills Of Africa" where the term "Grey Ghost" came from. Maybe somewhere else too!

“Done and dusted”

“Bliksem”

"Same bus, different driver"

In reference to recent political changes in Zimbabwe.

"That's a nice one." Lammie Ferierri, my PH before he'd let me shoot.

Once you've been to Africa, you have to go back. Author unknown, but so true.

On I like was my PH on a Giraffe hunt.

"There are three rules for a Giraffe hunt. 1. Shoot it near a road. 2. Keep shooting until it goes down. 3. Make sure it goes down near a road."

The first shot was a fata shot but he ran off. I manage a spine shot as it ran off and it dropped in it's tracks in a pan at the end of a road. The recovery team was elated.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
