Good Gun Deals This Week

This has been at Ellwood Epps for a minute. Anyone knowledgeable care to lend their thoughts on whether or not this is a "good deal"? Or, let's pretend no import costs, what would a great buy be for the rifle alone? I like the gun, love the caliber and am considering it, but don't have experience with a Heym Martini Express.

Appreciate the help.....!

MSRP on the base model is $9,600 USD so looks like an ok price IMO but I’m not sure. I’m sure someone more knowledgeable than I will come along momentarily. If it’s been there for a while they might take less. @Chris Sells may be willing to offer an opinion on it as he’s the US importer

Nice rifle. Also, go to Gunsinternational or Gunbroker and search '458 Lott' and you'll find many options in this segment.

My current gun crush for a solid working rifle is the Heym Martini. Only bad thing is the 3 shot mag. I get 5 in the CZ. But since you are a client and not the PH it won’t matter much. This has to be one of the better M98 clones ever made . Second only to the Vektor IMO but they never made A 458 Lott.

Hello friends,

Many of you have asked me for advice on gun searches as it's a bit of a hobby for me to "see what is out there" each week. I discussed this with @AfricaHunting.com and he permitted me to create a running post on the Classifieds section.

The purpose of the posts will be to show what interesting guns of good quality and value may be popping up on the Internet each week. My personal guidelines of a "good gun" are as follows:

"That is a quality weapon with soul, character, inherent quality, and can be purchased for what I or others believe is a good value. This may mean a $60,000 gun is being sold for half of that price, hence a good value, or it may mean that it is a heck of a gun for someone with $200-$300 to spare but they don't want to buy plastic junk. Frugality and quality are important factors so hopefully the well-heeled and the working blue-collar man both get something out of the topic."

I invite others with experience to jump in and "kick the tires" if my critiques are off. There are many experts on this forum that will be able to add to the conversation in the hopes that we all get more knowledgeable at appraising the strengths and weaknesses of the guns listed.

A final warning: While I'll try to list guns that are offered on "legitimate" gun sites, a legitimate site is not a guarantee of a legitimate seller. You must always assess the legitimacy of any purchase by determining the feedback rating, methods of payment, and reasonable terms of any advertisement. Caveat emptor.

Regards,

@rookhawk
Fantastic, great idea. Looking forward to your post.

Hard to pass that one up! Really nice if your looking for that caliber rifle.

Quite sure you can order a 5 round magazine from Heym - I own a SR30 in .308 and was able to get a larger magazine.

SR30 is not a dangerous game rifle and it has a removable magazine. Yes, you can get SR30 mags in 3 and 5 round capacities, the latter being extra ugly externally revealing drop box mags.

The Heym Martini is their answer to the Dakota, Granite Mountain, Mauser, Rigby, and other “full scale dangerous game rifles” with internal magazines and a mauser controlled round feed.

Where the issue of magazine capacity in dangerous game rifles is concerned, it ultimately comes down to the depth of the action at the magazine and trigger guard. To do this Is usually a one-off custom bottom metal that is protruded and it requires a larger stock as well to provide the strength needed due to the amount of wood removed surrounding such a bottom metal.

Well - good to know - I stand corrected.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
