Looking for thoughts and those who have used Hornady 180gr SST and/or Interbonds on plains game in Africa. I have both and am looking for a designated PG round for my 300 H&H. Kudu will be the largest of the PG on this upcoming hunt. Anything larger the 375 will take with 300gr TBBC’s
Thank for your insight…

I have found the SST to be softer than just the standard SP and of course the interbond. I limit the SST to Texas whitetail personally.

I have used a 180 grain Hornady SP out of a 06’ to take a Hartmanns zebra Stallion. 175 yards give or take - Shoulder shot dropped him dead.

I would not hesitate to use that combo again on plainsgame. Moderate velocity is key and I think a 300h&h would be fine.

The Interbond were a great bullets but were discontinued. I wish I had bought more when they were available. Here is a picture of a 154 grain Interbond out of a 7mm magnum on a large bodied mule deer.

Ditto on what @DG870 said. I used the 165 grain on 400lb - 500lb cow elk from a .30-06 w/o issue.

All I can figure is Hornady decided to get out of the bonded bullet business, that is until the DGX made an appearance, and they then backpedaled and made it bonded.

I still hoard a small pile of those 165's...

I had the opportunity to reload SST 180 gr in Africa for my .300 Winchester magnum. It was the only bullet available on the farm and I used Somchem 385 powder. I shot several wildebeests and a kudu. They worked well, even pretty far, but even at distance, this bullet is really fragile like the Nosler Ballistic-Tip I also used later.
I recovered one SST in a black wildebeest shot at 400+ yards and the lead core was out of the jacket.
If I have the choice, I would prefer the Interbond over the SST.

Back in 2010 I used a 150 gr Interbond out of a 30-06 for my Dall sheep at around 100 yards. I shot it quartering away, hitting everything vital and stopping on the far shoulder. It expanded beautifully, and retained something like 80% weight as I recalled. As you can guess that sheep went nowhere. I'd compare them to the Nosler Accubond. The 180 with 300 H&H velocity would be deadly. If you have them, use them with confidence IMO

I believe the Interbond has been replaced to a certain degree by the Hornady ELD-X line. I have used SST's extensively here in the states for whitetails and they are deadly. I would however have concern using them on PG. I have used the Federal Trophy Bonded Tipped (old Bear Claw design) as a bonded bullet, exceptionally accurate and weight retention when recovered is ~80%. Picture attached I think they are the best of both worlds. Also, the Barnes TSX and TTSX line has had wonderful results.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
