MOZ Terrorist Attack..

There is a lot to be said about not putting yourself in a dangerous situation. In reality you can’t insulate yourself from danger anywhere. Just look around the US, Christmas parades targeted by crazies, Walmart shot up, night clubs attacked, churches and school shootings and as the old song goes “the beat goes on”.
As of this moment I would not hunt Niassa, I would hunt the delta a place that I dearly love, but if the violence picks up and bleeds south I would look elsewhere.

Africa is back sliding after the colonial infrastructures and policies are finally collapsing. I know not a politically correct statement. OR maybe they already had a long time ago?
Those structures were gone decades ago. Sometimes the colonial power took them with them when they left, and in other cases they got wiped out in civil/proxy wars.

Some years ago, we were offered a project at Libya, a power generation plant. The client insisted our techs do the training and startup on site (about 125 miles inland) instead of what I had offered which was training their techs and assist remotely. We would have been responsible for controls and plant automation.

So, I looked around. No one would insure for K&R. I reached out to Aegis and some other firms for armed guards and extraction. They said because people on both sides there had RPGs only a marine rescue would be viable, and 125 miles was too far inland and risky.

I declined the contract.

They get you for Political trouble not kidnapping. I priced K&R when my family was considering some days in Mozambique. We decide it was not worth the expense and the risk to spend a couple of days at the beach. Needless to say, I doubt that I will ever hunt or vacation in Mozambique.
Yeah, if I have to pay for a K&R policy on TOP OF all the other expenses for a Safari, I’m not going back.

A distinct difference is that I’m mostly always armed here in the U.S. Whether it’s Africa, Mexico, Europe or other countries, the sheep (us) are unarmed and the only people with weapons are the criminals/terrorists and the police, who may or may not be in cahoots with the armed factions. And those bent on mayhem know that. Not very reassuring.

Same here, always armed here at home. We kept our rifles in our rooms in Mozambique, albeit a bolt action .375 isn’t much of a match against terrs with automatic weapons.

Seems like a lot of areas around Africa are becoming more dangerous for Westerners. I’m sure specific locations might be fine. I just don’t see the increase in violence being a good marketing tool for safari owners and PHs.

Damn… this is No Good… this will impact the Niassa a great bit I would think.
I would assume there will be a lot of cancellations for this a season and maybe next as a result
I assume this will impact the operators quite a bit I assume which is horrible.

Has it been said how many people have been kidnapped or their nationalities?

Watching this but it isn’t going to impact my decision to hunt Mozambique in 2026. To note, I’m also single without kids or a family to think about

I haven't been able to find many specifics. Hopefully one of the members here will be able to share some good news at some point.

Yes, but look at the quality of the hole!

Not just the Niassa in Mozambique, but THE SELOUS in Tanzania, I think the whole thing will be put down buy both governments, as this will cut off funds for the government officials?
Every country in Africa has a level 2 -3 do not travel/ terrorist risk , except Zambia
I don’t think I will sweat it that much , if I can survive escape from Libya and Algeria back in the 1990’s I don’t think I’ll worry about a small local uprising , as compared to a entire two countries in a Arab uprising and having to fight for a escape to Malta by boat.
The governments will probably provide armed forces to defend the tourists/ hunters
Besides we go for the best adventure possible

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
Behind the scenes of taking that perfect picture.....

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris
