MOZ Terrorist Attack..

Once this clears up and becomes stabilized, I’m going to take the opportunity to book my Niassa hunt with David Langerman for this year as I will be able to pick my preferred dates. If it still is dicey then I can always postpone.

I'm booked to go back to L9 block in the Niassa in Sept, 2026 with @KWALATA SAFARIS and plan on retaining that booking. Everyone needs to make their own decisions and I would not fault anyone for what they decide, one way or the other.

But this is a big blow to Kambako. As I understand it, the operators cannot get insurance for their camps. I think it would be surprising to many just how much is spent to build up those camps and subsequently maintain them. It is also a big blow to the people in the area that are employed by the various outfitters operating in the Niassa as well as the meat provided to feed the locals.

When I finished my safari in Niassa last year about 3/4 of the flight from Pemba to Jo’berg was South African military. I never once felt unsafe on the ground in Mozambique. With that being said most operators will be honest and tell you whether or not it is safe in the weeks leading up to your trip.

These pics show some of what is lost at Kambako.

The outfitter was interviewed and he said no hostages were taken but the camp was burned.
I heard the same. I’m thinking the camp caretaker staff just fled. Was Jumbo even able to confirm it was Muslim extremists or just a group of thugs? Plenty of poor people around who aren’t even extremists whom could cause problems.

I spoke to the operator 50km away next door. He said his lion hunter is still coming but he has other clients that are more concerned. Only time will tell.

For people booked further south, I wouldn’t panic. Mozambique is bigger than most people think. I’ve been there three times. Tete, C9, C11, etc… are a long way off. I wouldn’t be surprised if even Kambako opens up their other camps once the army gets things hopefully sorted. Hopefully an isolated incident. We shall see.

Sounds like there may/should be a new trophy fee and game animal added?? These issues are very sad, no good ever comes and from what I read no bad guys are found and held accountable. Hunters and outfitters loose again.

What is a good resource to stay up to speed on African news and politics?

I wondered the same, but there are also reports of nearby villages attacked as well. Unfortunately, I seldom find Indepth and reliable news from that corner of the world.

Note the date of this reported assurance by the government minister reported in the Moz News.
This activity has been going on for YEARS.

The offenders/criminals/insurgents/terrorists/muppets decided to go after a rich prize that have mostly been left alone.

"Hostages" sure gets the "clicks"

This story is not as sexy:

Nor this one:
Here's a story to turn your attention to if you fly into Maputo.
5 days ago, 1500 prisoners escaped the max security prison in Moz.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
Behind the scenes of taking that perfect picture.....

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris
