New guy looking to hunt in Africa for the first time, experienced Rocky Mountain hunter for elk and deer. Any advice as to recommended PH and guide, and best rifle caliber would be appreciated.
Welcome to AH. There are plenty of Africa hunters in SE Pennsy. There is usually a winter banquet for the SCI chapters in that area. It's a good venue to meet others with a lot of African experience.
We will be in attendance at the Great American Outdoor Show booth#5324 in Harrisburg, February 2-10, 2019. We welcome you to stop by our booth and talk some African hunting with us. We would love to meet you and get the chance to chat in person.... If you are not going to the show, please feel free to send us a PM here on AH.com anytime.
Welcome to AH jhausladen! Depending on where and what you plan to hunt in Africa, the classic 1 gun hunt has been a 375 H&H. I have taken from duiker to Cape buffalo with one.
Welcome aboard. Before providing an opinion regarding caliber, what are you planning to hunt? One thing for sure, 22(s) are not recommended for elephant, besides that, they don't qualify as a DG caliber. More info please.

Welcome to AH @jhausladen ! The calibre of choice will really depend on, first of all, what you would like to hunt as far as species are concerned, and second of all, also which part of South Africa. Terrain varies quite a lot from the North, as compared to down South where we are situated. If you would be so kind to drop me an email at: info@huntsafaris.co.za or drop me a Personal Mail right here on the forum, I will be more than happy to assist.
Hallo there! We are a hunting outfitter based in Namibia. Namibia is a great hunting destination if it is your first time you want to hunt Africa.
Please drop us an email and visit our website for more information on what we have to offer and where we are situated.
I will be your PH and we recommend a 300 Winmag and up. Lwyk
I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
