Canadians cost conservatives the election..

Trump certainly was a factor in Canadians making the decisions they made... but ultimately Canadians made the decision.. Trump didn't force anyone to pull a lever, nor did the USG (under Trumps direction) manipulate/hack/interfere with Canadian elections..

The question Canadians chose to focus on was Trump and tariffs.. and put the 9+ years of Trudeau insanity on the back burner.. Carney is Trudeau 2.0.. the new and improved version of the same policies and same practices that got Canada to where it is today.. all of the things the majority of Canadians really dislike... but failed to focus on earlier this week.. their concern over Trump was greater (IMO, a huge mistake)..

Trump will be gone in 3.5 years.. and most likely wont be 1/3 as effective in 18 more months if he continues to operate the way he has been (will lose support of the courts, the congress, and the middle/centrists in the US)...

What Carney will do to Canada will take decades to get out from under..

The focus should have remained on how liberalism has tanked the Canadian economy and culture...

But Canadians chose to think about a short term problem rather than a long term problem (IMO)..

which isnt actually green at all...

it takes more crude to manufacture and maintain wind power than it does to just use the crude to generate energy in the first place.. then you have to deal with disposal once the system wears out....

at some point solar and wind will very likely make sense.. both are far more efficient than they were 25 years ago... and continue to gain efficiency..

but today I think its a very, very bad move...

in my very best billy bob thornton voice... if wind was the future exxon would be putting windmills all over the fucking place... (they arent... which should be a very, very big indicator)..
Agreed

90% of those turbine blades are made in China and they are generally replaced every 10 years and what happens to those blades.....
-1x-1.webp

Also the wind energy industry has been issued "eagle take permits" and other exemptions that allow them to operate in areas with endangered birds.

So you can't use ammo containing lead in certain parts of the country to protect condors and such; but you can build wind turbines that will knock them out of the sky.

100% bang on. So frustrating.

True. Personal decisions are one’s own (obviously). BUT I think it’s fair to say that conservatives would have had a better chance minus Trumps rhetoric. I think he definitely contributed to the loss. Not popular to say but that’s the way I see it

After then appointed Prime Minister met with Trump 6 weeks ago Trump stated it was a good meeting and he felt it would be better to deal WITH A LlIBERAL GOVERNMENT!!! That's what stared the fear Carney focused on and spread.

100% true from what I am hearing. Logically it doesn't make sense but people do stupid things all the time and it doesn't make it any less true.

Id imagine it is a whole lot easier to deal with a liberal government if you're on the opposite side of the table in a negotiation..

I'd much prefer to go into hard negotiations against a decision maker that has to appeal to emotionally based backers than have to play in a world of cold, hard, facts...

Trump LOVES to play with peoples emotions.. its a core skill requirement for his negotiation tactics and strategy.. he says bombastic things.. makes accusations.. wildly exaggerates, etc.. for the purpose of getting the other side riled up and focused on the bombastic statement rather than the actual problem that needs to be resolved.. which he then leverages..

Trump also hates China.. and Carney absolutely loves China.. once Carney takes Canada further down the China path it makes it a whole lot easier for Trump to "show" America that his decision to hammer Canada with tariffs, over matters of border security, etc.. was correct.. it makes it easy to paint Canada as a bad actor and get the US to support his actions.. no different than Carney has painted Trump (and the US) as bad actors for Trumps statements..

I'd guess Carney is exactly who Trump wanted in office.. its going to be a whole lot easier to get what he wants now than it would have been with Polievre.. Canadians will hate him for it.. but since when has Trump ever cared about who hates him? He thrives on it from what I can tell... as do most of the hard right MAGA supporters..

Trump knew exactly what he was doing.. it wasn't a mistake.. it was a purposeful move...

It doesnt apply to anyone other than the below (top section of the attached link)...

It basically requires actual office holders and candidates, political committees, and people that get paid (or otherwise compensated) to create political advertising to be truthful in advertising... they can no longer outright lie and get away with it..

It doesn't apply to you, me, or anyone else that goes to a meme generator and decides to make fun of AOC, or some lie that Tump/Biden/whoever told, etc..

I dont see Alberta leaving Canada.. but this is certainly an interesting move..

Thank you @mdwest for the clarification.

Also if China dumped the products in Canada then Amazon sends it from Canada to the US it’s a lower level. So within a week there would be gaming the system. Also an issue. Canada has been helping China bypass past tariffs.
True, TEMU’s main warehouse is in Canada.
By the way I am all for Amazon and every business posting additional tariff fees. It gives me the transparency to see where I chose to spend my money.

If the item is $10 more made in the US. No tariff. That’s where I’m buying.
The problem is that most items are made elsewhere and not cost effective or possible to bring the production to the US.
Heck, it is interesting that Apple is moving production from China to India not the USA.

One other thing. We decided a while back to move from a manufacturing oriented economy to service oriented economy and farmed manufacturing overseas, it is not coming back in volume to matter.

However, the biggest threat to our services oriented economy is not China, but computers and AI.

Trump knew exactly what he was doing.. it wasn't a mistake.. it was a purposeful move...

That is 100% correct. It was by design.
Do you want a strong opposition or a weak opposition for the next 3.5 years?

He poured new gas on fire AGAIN just a couple days before the election day to ensure he gets what he wants. Making sure the button he pushed earlier it’s still down.

Trump does what is good for him and his family first. For his business partners next. At one stage he does what is good for the USA.
Canada is not even on his list.

But the blame for the results rests 100% on the Canadian’s shoulders. We own it. And we’ll pay for our choice. In an ideal world people should be able to think for themselves. But we live in the real world……

Midwest, during today’s cabinet meeting Trump basically said exactly what you posted above.

That he prefers the liberal PM over the “conservative”

They meeting within the week. And Carney said he wants to resolve this tariff issue.

Your were right on the money.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
