What are you reading?

Up next after the current Robert Ruark book, had to take a quick look through. Appreciate this as well @Hogpatrol, more than a little useful info.

This one now , About the kitchens and recipes , parties and guests in the homes of Karen Blixen in Africa and in Denmark . Ordering kitchen equipment and much more from both Denmark and abroad to get sent to Kenya to build up the kitchen and quality there .

Learning both the native recipes and learning Danish and continental style to the helpers there . Quite a very good book with short stories of many kind , and yes about safaris there also .

I have read this a few months ago. It is a very well resarched book about all subspecies of syncerus caffer: zoology, ecology, hunting history, the author's buffalo hunts in East and West Africa. Historical tales by old professional hunters and authors like Hemingway and Ruark are discussed. McIntyre even writes short bits about the wild cattle of Asia and other parts of the world.
It's not a book to read in one go - many details and information with lots of very interesting endnotes, took me some time to digest it all. And there are several biographical details about the author throughout the book that could have been omitted in my opinion. But McIntyre was a good professional writer with a lot of hunting experience. Though sometimes a strange mix of biography, reference book and hunting tale, i recommend this book.

Just finished a book on Eisenhower, "Ike's Bluff," and am now re-reading Stephen King's "The Stand."

If you need motivation to be more prepared. This one will do that. Some of the writing is a little predictable and a few lines are a little cheesy. But it’s a fast read that will make you question if you’re prepared for a disaster.

Right now, I am flipping through Gun digest 2025 annual edition, and latest African Hunting Gazette quarterly.

I've just read Conquistador; Hernán Cortés, king Montezuma and the last stand of the Aztecs by Buddy Levy. History book about the conquest of Mexico. Great book, reads like a novel.

Regarding Africa just started with Mahohboh by Ron Thomson.

“Suspect” by Robert Crais. If you love dogs…

Im wrapping up Ivory’s Ghosts about the history of the ivory trade and eventual start of elephant conservation. It’s quite good.

I thought this was a very good book! Anyone that has spent anytime in Mozambique should enjoy it.
And...where we hunted last year in Zimbabwe on the Moz border (Zambezi valley) was one of the areas featured in Ian N's book

I just finished “Throne of Grace” about the mountain man Jedidiah Smith. Enjoyed it.

I’m about 20% into the western novel “Monte Walsh” by Jack Schaefer and am REALLY enjoying it.

I started Blixens “African Hunter” and was enjoying it so I stopped. Have a bear hunt in June and saving it for the tree stand.

"On the Real Origin of Species by Means of Life". I'm about 1/2 way through and understand about 20% of it but it's fascinating.

Just finishing volume 4 of Winston Churchill’s 6 volume set about WW2. Getting quite an education in the process.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris
