Fancy new stuff from Swarovski

Just came across the new Swarovski dS 5-25x52P rifle scope. This thing sure is fancy! Looks like it combines the tech of the TrackingPoint system and relatively compact size of a normal scope.

Maybe it will cost less than the 15k that the TrackingPoint systems seem to run...

Should be available in Europe in time for the fall hunting season. The US will have to wait until Shot Show in January 2018.

This might take some of the fun/challenge out of hunting for the old hands around here, but may be a great way for young/inexperienced or handicapped shooters to enjoy hunting.

(Also, may be nice to have if you're taking a super long, cross canyon shot for some sheep or maybe mt. nyala and you want to be extra sure you don't miss that pricey trophy!)

SWAROVSKI OPTIK ANNOUNCES NEW SMART SCOPE

Swarovski Optik North America has announced its new dS riflescope — completely new generation of riflescopes that combine the optical features of a conventional scope with the technology of digital targeting.

The new dS shows the correct aiming point as well as key ballistic data in a heads up display without distraction and in real time. The benefit for hunters are many: The correct aiming point is automatically displayed in the scope and a press of a button provides exact distance to the target, factoring in magnification setting, air pressure, temperature and angle, as well as personal ballistic data for the individual’s firearm/ammunition combination.

This new scope requires networking with a smart phone and data exchange is easily accomplished via a Bluetooth interface. According to Carina Schiesti-Swarovski, “This makes an important contribution in terms of allowing hunting to be carried out in a responsible manner all the time.”

Delivery of the new dS scope begins in July of 2017 in Europe and debuts in the U.S. at SHOT Show in January 2108.

My biggest concerns was the weight and tube diameter. 40 mm rings are not the easiest to find. Might be hard to get good cheek weld.... If I remember correctly 38 oz. Not for a lightweight carry setup... Glass is likely pretty good. Bruce

bingo. but the cost will be astronomical think of lens size increasing the cost 25 vs 30 vs 40mm

Burris has had a pretty similar scope for about 10 years now. It is big and bulky for sure and ranging from the scope does require a steady rest. And what cartridge were they shooting that requires a two foot holdover at 294 meters?

I have a friend with a Burris and he seems to like it. I thought at first that I might need to take a look at this one. The above reasons make it unlikely I will buy one..... Bruce

I will more then likely never own a scope like this. However the btx has me wondering if I really want to take an extra animal on my safari

It's a cool idea but I'm not sure I'd want a fixed 30x. My bet is they bring out a variable in the next year or two.

I was wondering about that as well. We knew they had plans for this modular system just a shame it took five years for something new to come out

You would also need a gun bearer who is young enough to sort out all that computer stuff for you and carry the spare batteries and USB power pack!

Actually, it is a fantastic new scope that makes other equipment redundant so it actually reduces the overall equipment count and weight.

Congratulation to Swarovski and I just can’t wait to get one at about US$4000
